Now, that being said, one must understand that she has no choice in the matter. She is the product of her environment and the result of generations of selective breeding. Much the same as the socialists are trying to do to us. Well my friends, I will be damned if I want to be turned into a domesticated animal. 

My “Master” (and make no mistake that he intends to be my master) Barack Obama is setting up a system to provide me with food, shelter, clothing and medical care. His idea of freedom is a cradle to grave society where every need is taken care of by the government. He will decide what I do for work and how much I get paid. I will live in his dog house which will be provided to me by the government with strict guidelines as to how I furnish it and how much fuel I can use to keep myself warm or cool. He will decide what I will eat in what quantities and of course when and how I will exercise. 

We humans have always made our own decisions for the better or worse. So many of us die before our time because of bad choices such as smoking and drinking, lack of exercise or other stupid self destructive behaviors. But, by God, that is our choice. 

Neither Obama or Bush or Clinton or any that have been or have yet to come have any business telling us how to behave. I am now an adult and have been for some time. My parents guided me as I grew and for that I thank them. But now, as an adult I must make my own way and make my own decisions. 

Our society has survived for two hundred years without the nanny state but I think that should Obama and his successors have their way this culture will die and be replaced with a group of lapdogs whining  for a treat from our masters in Washington.

However, when one considers that about 2/3 of taxes go to entitlement programs the rich are paying for the lions share of America’s benevolence. Okay, so these people are taking care of the needy in this country. Good for them.I think that the best definition of  a hero is one that acts more for the benefits of others than their own benefit. So, does that not make them heroes?

Not according to the left. To the left the rich are the enemy or at least they are an enemy that can be used for class warfare. Let’s take them down, they don’t deserve their wealth, they got it by exploiting YOU.

Well, I for one do not feel exploited. I understand what it takes to become rich in this country. It doesn’t take anything more than unrelenting dedication to your goals. Don’t go to a movie or out to dinner, don’t buy a new car, this old one has a few more miles on it. Stay home and study, work late as you have for years. The money will come but not if you don’t pursue it every minute of every day.

Well there it is, that’s all it takes to get rich. While your friends were out living their lives you were pursuing the American Dream and after many years of Herculean effort you have succeeded. CONGRATULATIONS, you are now the enemy. People hate you because you have exploited them. Hardly seems worth the effort. Here you have sacrificed everything to achieve your dreams and in the process have provided employment for others who are living the life that you have forsaken and you are their enemy. So many Americans depend on your taxes for their food, housing, schooling, health care etc etc and yet you are exploiting them according to the left.

You are not my enemy. I admire your dedication, your spirit and your success. I wish to emulate it and yes you are even my hero.

We will take two hypothetical groups as Guinea pigs, one hundred people each. Our scenario is a colony with only the basics necessary for survival.

Group A is a bunch of  greedy self absorbed capitalistic pigs.  Everyone in group A is required to work if they want to eat, each at their own trade. The farmers farm, the loggers log, those who can’t perform heavy physical labor do such tasks as they can, cooking, cleaning, book keeping and the like. Each person produces more than they need so they trade their excess for the things they need. Group A is going places all because each person is motivated by self interest.

Now we move onto group B. These people feel that they are owed a living. No food is grown because that is someone elses responsibility, houses are not built because no one knows how and their is no cooperation to survive. As hunger takes over they will forage but once again there is no sharing. This group is heading for starvation and death but first their society (if you can call it that) is going to collapse into a bunch of savages fighting to stay alive just a little bit longer.

Self interest is the primary human motivator. We choose the job that will give us the best return on our effort. We choose the boy/girl friend whom we perceive will bring us the most happiness. To paraphrase Brian Adams (everything I do, I do it for me) and think about it, why would we do anything that would make us unhappy?

I have a computer which I couldn’t have built in a thousand years on my own, same with my car, cell phone, TV, shoes, clothing, DVD player, fans, knives, plates etc etc etc. These are all things that others have chosen to build which they trade to me for money. I trade to others the things that I have created, once again for money.

I live well because of the efforts of countless others whom I will never know but who in return live well because of,  in part, my efforts.

Illegal aliens are bankrupting the safety net our government has in place for people who have fallen on hard times so one might say that it is they who are the enemy. But who are They? I am in WalMart the other day and I see a Hispanic family. Are they my enemy? Are they citizens just as I am? Or are they here illegally? Okay, they are speaking Spanish so it’s a good bet that they are illegals but that does not make them my enemy, I want a better life for myself so why shouldn’t they. If the economic situation between the U S and Mexico were reversed you can bet I’d be heading south.

So I think it’s the system that allows them to stay here and feed at the public trough. Yep, that’s my enemy and I’m going right out and shoot it today. Uh, can anybody tell me what the system looks like or if it has any vulnerable spots. Okay, I see my problem now. The system is not any one person or place. It is in fact a huge, nebulous something. It has grown all out of proportion from what seemed like a good idea at the time (like so many government programs) and now is so diffuse and wide spread that it encompasses the entire country like cancer cells through metastasis destroying the host body. One can not destroy the malignant cells without also killing the healthy in the process.

A friend recently visited the hospital to be treated for an infection that occurred because of a nipple ring. He is disabled from some degenerative illness that I can’t pronounce and is on public assistance. Now my thought is that he is an idiot for getting the ring in the first place but it’s a semi free country and it was his choice. But now you and I must pay his medical expenses not only for the illness which occurred through chance but also for that which happened through his own choice.

He is, as I said a friend and regardless of his participation in the system that is destroying our country I am hardly willing to shoot him so this returns us to my original question of “who’s my enemy.

And then there are the children. They have grown up never wanting for anything since it has always been provided “gratis” free of charge and nothing more expected of them other than to have a good life.  And they do have a good life if it can be called that since they have no appreciation of what it means to struggle for anything.

I grew up poor or at least that’s what I’m told. I had enough to eat and a roof over my head. And I had limitless opportunities to grow and imagine and dream. When I was eight my parents purchased a full set of the world book encyclopedia. WOW. These became my world. Any place I wanted to go could be found in those pages be it Ireland or the moon. And as a consequence I learned to desire and the pleasure of achievement. And that my friends, is wealth to me.

But back to these “rich” children. They had money to spend and that’s what they did with no idea where or how money was created. In many cases they would borrow against their parent’s fortune to extend the “good times”. Well, reality catches up eventually and the fun is over.

The third generation in this saga is back to shirt sleeves. Honestly, I think that this third generation is better off than the second, assuming of course that their parents did not saddle them with insurmountable debt. They will have a structure in their lives based upon what is truly important (family, faith, genuine friendship, productive work) and the satisfaction of contributing to their society.

Sadly my friends, our country is in the tail end of the second generation syndrome. We have lived the good life never knowing at what price this wealth was bought. We have borrowed against imagined future prosperity to extend the good times just a little further. Well the note is due, our credit is over extended and the good times are at an end. Shall we now live up to the obligation that we have run from far too long and thus let our children live and flourish? Or shall we instead deny our responsibility and enslave future generations with our lack of wisdom.

Man, I will tell you, I still get chills when I read those words. But I would like to dissect the part about the flag. Please don’t be insulted by my saying this. It’s just a piece of cloth, it has no life of it’s own and that cloth could have easily been made into a shirt, a pair of pants or even a handkerchief to help you clear your sinuses. So it’s not the cloth that’s important. Is it the design? I have to say, that I find few things more beautiful than Old Glory flying proud in the wind with the sun setting behind it, but the feelings that the flag evokes can come just as easily from a cheap plastic sticker on a car. The creators of the red white and blue chose some beautiful colors but those same three in a different configuration will mean nothing. So It’s not the colors.

I could dissect endlessly and accomplish nothing more than to irritate and alienate you, so I shall cut to the chase. It’s all about respect. Our country has a rich history, some good, some bad, but it’s not so much about the actions of our forefathers as it is their intent. Here, for the first time in the history of our planet, we had a gathering of people of many different beliefs and yet there was no need for conflict. Everyone could live and believe as they pleased without fear of reprisal. Now that is something to believe in.

So I will salute the flag with my hand over my heart to show my respect and gratitude for all we have been given by those men who founded our nation.

I’m not sure how it happened, there I was, a single guy with no responsibilities living a carefree life. Oh sure, I had a job and the responsibilities that go with that as well as the standard upkeep we all have. Phone bill, cable bill, groceries, rent, vehicle maintenance, personal hygiene, cooking, cleaning and all that goes with a life.

What I’m saying is that I have no children. Those of you who have children know about those responsibilities. Wow, those crumb crunchers come along and your life no longer belongs to you. I have a dog, plenty much for me for the time being.

Then I made a mistake, no I’m not talking about an unintended pregnancy, I’m thinking about when I started to become interested in politics. I had a desire to take my part in the election process every four years after my first vote for Ronald Reagan in 1980 but that was about it. I was a republican back when that meant something but I really didn’t understand what it meant at the time.

“CONSERVATISM” That’s my principle belief though I consider it to be a bit of a misnomer. The word implies a desire to keep things unchanging and whereas there are many characteristics of our society that are worth keeping there are some things that should be changed. I think that we conservatives want not so much the world that was as the world that should be. Case in point, whereas I am a firm advocate of discrimination on a personal scale, to discriminate against any group based on an inherited trait is wrong. In my life I have had friends who were Hispanic, Asian, black and Indian, both American and east and people I disliked of the same races. That was discrimination both in favor of and against individuals but it had nothing to do with race.

But I digress. As it turns out I am father to millions. Yes you read it right. I buy their food, their clothing, their medical care, dental, schooling, college, retirement. I pay for their legal expenses and their incarceration should they be found guilty. I have always thought that it took a DNA test to determine paternity and consequent responsibility. But, turns out, that isn’t it.

I HAVE A JOB, that’s it; I have an income so I have a parental responsibility to anyone who doesn’t. If and when I have a child my responsibility to him is clear. I will have chosen to bring a life to this world, a life that at first will not be able to care for itself and must be protected and cared for and that is both an obligation and a honor that I will gladly accept. As that child grows however the obligation will change in that I must teach that child self sufficiency for there will be a time when I will be no more. He must have the knowledge and drive to be able to produce not only what he needs but also abundance so that he may become a contributing part of his world. A world populated with such people as this will flourish.

But that is not the world we live in is it. There are parents who teach their children that they have a right to consume where they have not produced and the government will provide.

The government provides NOTHING except the force to make involuntary parents of all those who choose a productive life.
